Khmer Wedding Part 2: Behind the Scenes

Photography at Khmer weddings is very prescribed: there are specific shots and set ups with rotating family members and very little deviation.

The other sides to the proceedings – cooking, constructing, preparing decorations, putting on makeup, costume changes in progress – isn’t something that is normally documented. Everyone was genuinely puzzled as to why I was taking pictures of them chopping up vegetables, wrapping food in palm leaves or washing dishes.

But in a way I feel like these pictures give more of an insight into Khmer culture than the ceremony itself, showing how people work and laugh together to create a special day.
